Bariatric Evidence and Patient Experiences

Published by Renew Bariatrics

A study, a published case report and a before-and-after photograph answer different questions. This library keeps those sources separate so you can judge what each one tells you.

Research explained

Topic What the evidence guide examines
TORe research Controlled and longer-term evidence, the patients studied and the limits of applying averages to an individual.
ESG research Randomized and follow-up studies, weight-loss measures and the difference between ESG and surgical sleeve evidence.
Sleeve-to-bypass research Reflux and weight outcomes after conversion, follow-up completeness and reported adverse events.

A publication coauthored by Dr. Pérez

Dr. Pérez coauthored a 2023 surgical case report with a recorded Renew Bariatrics affiliation. It is listed with its original source on the publications page. A case report describes an individual clinical event; it is not a registry of the surgeon’s results.

Individual patient experiences

The patient-results gallery reproduces selected Renew before-and-after material with the procedure and details available from the source. The review collection contains excerpts that name Dr. Pérez. Neither collection is a complete or randomly selected sample of patients.

A gastric sleeve result does not demonstrate the expected result of TORe, ESG or a sleeve conversion. Where there is no verified procedure-specific patient story, we use published clinical evidence and say whose results are being described.

Five questions to ask of any result

  1. Were these patients similar to me, including their previous operations?
  2. Was there a comparison group, and how was treatment assigned?
  3. What did the researchers measure: weight, symptoms, medication use, complications or quality of life?
  4. How long were patients followed, and how many had complete follow-up?
  5. Does the report describe this practice or another center?

Start with how to read weight-loss percentages if different numbers appear to conflict. Before using any figure to make a treatment decision, ask the clinical team how well the study applies to your circumstances.
